Hello Games’ lofty ambitions for No Man’s Sky were sold a little too well to the public however, and the game ended up being placed on a pedicle which the actual product couldn’t reach. This led to one of the most tumultuous releases ever, with the backlash ranging from sound arguments over the misrepresentation of products in marketing to death threats sent to Hello Games over butterflies.

It wouldn’t be surprising then, if after a game release like No Man’s Sky, that a studio could have its ambitions tempered for future products. This appears not to be the case at Hello Games however, as the studio’s Managing Director Sean Murray spoke to IGN about the new game being developed by Hello Games, and said “it’s the kind of project that even if we had a thousand people working on it, it’d still seem impossible.”

Speaking about the team working on the ambitious new project, Sean Murray said “it’s a small team, but we like it that way.” Apparently, the new game is being developed in the background by this smaller dedicated team, which could indicate the studio is in no rush to finish the project and will only reveal it to the public when it is ready.

Murray previously stated that Hello Games had learned its lesson from the No Man’s Sky release, and would not be discussing its future games too early before launch. So far, the studio has stayed true to this promise, as very little is known about the upcoming project. The only things players do know is that it is not a sequel to No Man’s Sky, but it is apparently going to be equally ambitious in scale.

Hello Games has done a lot of work on No Man’s Sky since its rocky first release. Among its players the game is now known as one of the great comeback stories for games, after adding a lot the content that was originally promised before release, and Hello Games say it is not done with updates for No Man’s Sky. However, some players who never returned to the No Man’s Sky after launch may still feel scorned by the promises made and then not delivered on.

No Man’s Sky is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with a Nintendo Switch port scheduled for mid 2022.
